ISO 12931:2012 - Performance Criteria for Authentication Solutions (PCAS)
In today's every evolving world piracy and counterfeiting is affecting majority of the companies and is a permanent risk. In order to combat with piracy and counterfeiting of material goods, ISO 12931 - Performance Criteria for Authentication Solutions Standard (PCAS) is used. PCAS explains evaluation mechanism & procedures and also defines performance criteria. It also implements authentic solutions to identify the counterfeiting for products and guides the steps to stop it.
After analyzing risks regarding terms & conditions, authentication & protection process and evaluating performance criteria, ISO 2931:2012 standard narrates specifications and steps to overcome counterfeiting and control piracy.
Types of Authentication
PCAS offers two types of authentication solutions.
1. Overt: In overt type of authentication, counterfeiting and piracy is identified without using external resources and tools. It only needs human senses for this purpose.
2. Covert: In covert type of authentication, counterfeiting and piracy is detected with the help of external resources and tools. These tools embed hidden authentication into the products/goods and after verifying those authentication techniques, counterfeiting is detected.
